Rating The Beach Clubs in Tulum

I visited Tulum from October to November of 2020 and here are the ratings from my experiences in various beach clubs in Tulum. *I was in Mexico during COVID so it might be different than it usually is. Alright, let’s go:

Coco Tulum 7.5/10

I only went to Coco Tulum once (not to be confused with Coco Limited). They are famous for their swing bar so get a picture there! You don’t need a reservation to go. When I went, I wasn’t super impressed as there wasn’t really music and the service was slow. The menu is also pretty simple. The wifi also wasn’t working so I wasn’t able to download the menu. I got a pina colada which was fine. I also got chips and guac which were really good and the chips were made of fried plantains. I wouldn’t visit Coco again but I’m glad I checked it out the swings.

Papaya Playa Project 8.3/10

The infamous Papaya Playa Project. I visited a couple times and it was always super chill. You need a reservation to get in and they will check with a list they have. The beds are I think a minimum of $35 per person. The beach is beautiful though. They also have a super cute pool right on the beach. The drinks at Papaya Playa are pretty expensive like $12-$15 but their specialty cocktails are really good. It’s also the first beach club on the hotel zone so it’s the cheapest taxi ride from town. My only issue is that the music there is kind of lame, it’s just all EDM. It also closes pretty early around 6pm which I thought was strange. They have great wifi.

Ziggy’s 8.4/10

I visited Ziggy’s twice when I went. I did enjoy it, however, I thought it was a little cramped since the space is small and the drinks are very expensive. A corona is $5 and a cocktail is around $13. However, the food is pretty good. We got fish tacos and cauliflower tacos which were amazing. I don’t remember if there was a minimum for getting a bed but you do not need a reservation before going. They also had lowkey music so it isn’t really a party vibe but it’s very relaxing. The wifi there was not very strong though.

Ak’iin 8.8/10

I absolutely loved Akiin when I visited. This was the one beach club that had the most “party vibe” and it was playing rap and pop music which I loved. The drinks are relatively cheaper at $10 for a cocktail. They also had body painters when I was there which made it so fun. The body painters go around the various beach clubs and they all work on tips and the suggestion is around 100 pesos. My only issue with Akiin was the minimum for a bed is buying a bottle and I don’t even want to know how much that was. Luckily, we were meeting some friends there when we went. The friends we met up with ordered a seafood platter that came with so much fresh seafood and a whole fish (pictured below). It was epic. Akiin did not have working wifi which was not ideal.

La Zebra 9.7/10

La Zebra is my all time favorite beach club in the hotel zone. It is SO relaxing and it has the best service I had experienced in Tulum. I went twice and loved it both times. You don’t need a reservation to get in. The minimum spend is $30 per person and they don’t give you a towel. I got a Frappuccino and burrito there which were both fantastic. Their margaritas are also amazing and they have like 100 different flavors that you can customize. The bartender is also so fun and does a great job. They have games such as giant Jenga and Connect 4 which is great. They don’t really have music since it’s more of a family hotel. The only negative is that it’s pretty far down on the hotel zone so a taxi will cost more and it can take a while depending on traffic so get there early. They have public wifi but it works great.

Mina 8.1/10

Mina was the first beach club I went to. You don’t need a reservation to go. It’s in the middle of the hotel zone so a cheaper taxi ride. It’s super cute since the beach is secluded. I got a spicy mango margarita and a prosciutto pizza which were delicious. It was around $25 for both. The wifi works well and service is good. I went alone so it was a very chill vibe and I brought a book. It can be really fun with a group and they had spike ball there.

Ahau 7.9/10

https://www.ahaucollection.com/ahau-tulum

I was only at Ahau for a little. It is the beach club with the statue every takes pictures of. It’s a nice beach but very chill. It’s expensive since there isn’t a minimum, but you have to pay $30 for a bed that doesn’t go towards your bill. I only walked along the beach but it’s still nice. The Raw Love cafe is super cute though and has amazing smoothie bowls and coffee. This is also where Tulum Jungle Gym is. It’s a really cool beach club even if you just want to peak in and takes some pictures. Otherwise, it’s pretty expensive for the beach club. The wifi works great here. The smoothie bowl was the only thing I took a picture of but there are so many good photo ops at Ahau. I took a bad picture of the infamous Tulum statue since there’s usually a line to take pictures.

Vagalume 8.3/10

https://www.vagalume-tulum.com/vagalemebeachclub

I went to Vagalume as the first stop on a bar crawl. Vagalume is currently closed due to a shooting and I’m not sure if it’ll open back up. You also need a reservation to get in or pay cover I think. It was a super fun beach club but it was also very elitist. It was the only beach club I went to where the “beach club” section was roped off from the beach so local sellers aren’t able to come up the people at Vagalume. That was very weird. The wifi also didn’t work.

Delek 8.9/10

Delek is very nice and relaxing. They provide towels and you don’t need a reservation. Instead of beds, they have very relaxing lounge chair/mini beds. There isn’t a minimum and the space is pretty big. I got a pina colada and chips and guac. Both were delicious and prices were average. The service was excellent. They played lowkey music so it would be a good beach club to work from home at. Wifi was also really fast.

Playa Paraiso 10/10

I have nothing bad to say about Playa Paraiso. This is the public side of the beach which is on the opposite side of the hotel zone. It’s not a beach club, but just a strip of public beach. I love Playa Paraiso for a relaxing day. There are some clubs such as Tekio that play music and you can enjoy it without entering. It’s great because you can bring your own drinks, food and enjoy. Taxis are also cheaper and it’s a faster bike ride from town. It’s also the perfect place to enjoy a sunrise or sunset. It’s my favorite beach to bring a book and take some me time. If you get close enough to Mezzanine restaurant, you can connect to the wifi, otherwise there isn’t wifi.
